About the Event

The II International Workshop on intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and the III International Workshop in Photodiagnosis (PD) and Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from February 21-23, 2006. The three day event will have participation of leading clinicians and researchers in IMRT/IGRT/PD/PDT. The main thrust of the event will be to assemble both parties to present and discuss the most recent clinical and research topics in IMRT/IGRT/PD/PDT. Clinicians and medical physicists in Latin American already doing IMRT/IGRT/PD/PDT will also share their experience.

The Brazilian Association of Medical Physics (ABFM) hosts the event, with participation of the Brody School of Medicine at the East Carolina University, Instituto de Fisica de São Carlos-USP and Laboratorio de Ciencias Radiologicas da Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro. The language of the meeting will be English. Commercial products related to IMRT/IGRT/PD/PDT will be exhibited during the workshops.

This event will be prior to the famous Carnaval that takes place in Rio de Janeiro, every year. The Carnaval will be from February 24th to February 28th. Due to the Carnaval, it is wise to make your travel arrangements as soon as possible. Also, the number of attendees is limited please register early.

The Goal

To give the attendees an opportunity to gain an overall experience in all aspects of IMRT/IGRT, ranging from inverse planning, dynamic MLC leaf sequences, delivery of an IMRT plan with quality assurance procedures and various clinical issues. For the ones interested in PD and PDT the attendees will have an opportunity to gain overall experience in both of these fields.

The intended attendees include physicians, physicists, dosimetrists, therapists and students.
